Some shocking among the Divergent fandom this morning! MTV has exclusively announced that there will no longer be an Allegiant Part 2, because now the film has the new title of Ascendant.
The news of this new title for the 4th film in The Divergent Series was accompanied by these 2 new posters which show us a new logo and very interesting tagline for Ascendant.
“Break the boundaries of your world” is a good line for Allegiant. It makes sense because that’s what Tris and her fellow characters are doing in the story, they leave what they thought was their entire world behind to go find more. “The end is never what you expect” – now that’s interesting. Already some fans on social media are speculating that the filmmakers might be taking the end in a different direction than Veronica Roth did in Allegiant, but for now it’s important to keep an open mind.
Here’s what Veronica Roth had to say on the subject (shared via tumblr):
So, you may have heard about this– the last movie in the Divergent series will be called “Ascendant”. http://www.mtv.com/news/2265888/divergent-series-allegiant-ascendant-logos-exclusive/
What does this mean? Well, basically, it means there are going to be some changes, but it’s really too early to know exactly what those changes will be or the extent of them. I know changes always make fans of the books– and the author!– nervous, but hopefully the characters we know (and love. Or sometimes love to hate?) will still be intact, which is really the important thing. I am eager to see how these movies turn out, along with you guys.
She could just be saying this to save face, but I like to believe that if our author has faith then we can have some too.
Opinion time: Personally, I love the way Allegiant ended. I thought Veronica was bold and brave for doing it, and it makes sense for Tris to do what she did. No ending would’ve been as good and had such an impact on its readers like Allegiant did. So if they changed her fate in the movie, I would find myself being a little upset and possibly not enjoying it as much. BUT depending on what they do with the rest of the plot, who knows how I would feel. The movies are a completely separate entity from the books, we all know that by now with the changes the made with Insurgent. So doesn’t it stand to reason that we keep our minds open to the changes and just judge these movies based solely on their own merit and not on the books they are adapted from. But that’s just one girls opinion.
