Guys! It’s the 10th Anniversary of Twilight! TENTH! It’s hard to believe it has been that long since Bella first fainted at the scent of blood at school. Since Edward stopped the van from crushing Bella. Since Bella fell unconditionally and irrevocably in love with Edward!
Well boys and girls, Stephanie Meyer has a treat for you. No it’s not Midnight Sun being finished and published… But lets just have her explain shall we:
SO. That wasn’t the news or extra tidbit that we were expecting was it!? The first thing I saw on the subject was an Instagram post from MTV:
Needless to say I was SO SO confused. Then I hopped onto twitter and saw that Twilight was trending. Okay. So I clicked the trending tag which led me to the Good Morning America interview! If you were too lazy to watch the interview, basically for the 10th anniversary of Twilight. Stephenie Meyer RE-WROTE Twilight and gender swapped everyone. Bella is now “Beau“, Edward is “Edythe“, and Jacob is “Julie“.
Being a “twihard” to the core my first thought was confusion, if I’m being honest. But the more time I’ve had to let the idea process, the more I’m intrigued. This is basically NEW Twilight material guys! Something I personally thought we would never have again! This has the potential to be amazing! And obviously I’m going to need it on my bookshelf STAT to complete my collection. We all thought we were getting a foreword. Maybe a deleted scene of sorts, but no. We get 400 pages of our beloved story re-imagined!
Of course some hilarious photo-shopped pictures are already showing up on the internet, to no one’s surprise. And I myself have had a good laugh.
Another burning question in my mind is what does this do for the film franchise? This could introduce a whole new generation to this series. It HAS been 10 years. All the babies that were named, Bella and Jacob are now 8-10 years old and will soon be reading themselves. Could this put a new spin on the movie franchise? There have been rumors/talks of possibly having another Twilight movie, but the “Twihards” know that vampires don’t age and it would be nearly impossible to get Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart working together again. But THIS could lead to a new film of sorts. Maybe get “right” a few of the things that the first film was lacking. Will this spur more books re-told? With the success of franchises like The Hunger Games, whose final move in the franchise “Mockingjay Part 2″ opens next month and is expected to be one of the biggest movies of 2015, and Divergent, whose 3rd movie “Allegiant” is set to hit theaters come March 2016, is the movie industry interested in more Twilight? I would for sure go see it. Would you? Meyers states that it won’t happen… but it wouldn’t surprise us one bit!
