In a new interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Veronica Roth talks about some of the goals she had in mind when writing Four: A Divergent Collection. In particular, she wanted to make Four a little less sexy. (Yes–you read that correctly!) Veronica says:
He’s sort of a mysterious figure. Even throughout the [original ‘Divergent’] series, we’re always learning his secrets. When you actually get inside his head, he’s not nearly as sexy and mysterious as he sounds…He’s an unsure person, who is going through a very difficult time and has to decide what he’s going to do in these very challenging situation. It demystifies him and makes him more human…The best part of writing the collection was getting to know him as a person, and not just as a love interest.
Check out the video below! I don’t know if Veronica was successful in de-sexifying Four…he’ll always be swoony to me, but what do you think?
